Pronounced [Wahsh el..]

Meaning: This is a popular prefix which is added to various subjects to give the meaning of Mastery of that particular subject, for example a popular food in Iraq بيتنجان (eggplant) is described popularily as "وحش الطاوة" (The Monster of the frying pan) because of its dominance on Iraqi's menus in the 1990's. Similarily a person skilled in playing cards can be referred to as "وحش الورق" (Monster of Cards) and so on and so forth. The origin of this term dates back to the late 1980's and the wave of mass-produced Egyptian movies. A great number of which starred a popular actor by the name of "Ferid Shawqi" who was often billed as "وحش الشاشة" or "the monster of the screen" due to his aggressive, dominant character roles. The word "Monster" here is used to imply dominance and mastery.
