عبد الوهاب البياتي (1926 - 1999

pro.[Abd al-Wahhab Al-Bayyati]

meaning:A great Iraqi poet who led Arabic poetry beyond the constraints of classical Arabic poetical forms, transcending the traditional rhyme schemes and conventional metric patterns that had prevailed for more than 15 centuries. He was born in Baghdad, on December 19, 1926 near the shrine of the 12th century Sufi Abdel Qadir al-Jilani He died in exile, apparently without any previously diagnosed illness, in Damascus on August 3, 1999.
